Behavioral Health Updates for 2022

Dr. Cathy Sigmund, Behavioral Health Director

In 2022, we welcomed two new part-time therapists, Katie Sanko, LPC and Trey Ghee, LCSW. Michelle Saldutte, LCSW, continues as our full-time therapist and psychiatric service coordinator.  The department continues to grow, surpassing the number of patients receiving services in 2021 and 2020. We expanded community wellness services to include holistic wellness services to newly arrived refugees and evacuees.

Outreach events included co-hosting a regional Afghan Baby Welcome & Wellness Event.  We also partnered with Light of Life (LOL), DHS and AHEC to establish a NSCHC Behavioral Health/Community Wellness site at LOL to assist housing vulnerable community members with accessing formal and informal behavioral health and community wellness services through care navigators and community liaison workers. The service started in May and is used regularly by LOL guests.  We were also approved for another year of funding to provide community- based psychoeducational training both informally and formally through previously established partnerships to increase health literacy among ethnic minorities, refugees and immigrant groups.

As we head into 2023, the 4th year of NSCHC’s newest service, we will continue to add therapists to meet the behavioral health needs of our patients and to build partnerships to improve the safety and wellness of our community.
