Food Access Program

Access to healthy food is a critical part of whole-person care

North Side Christian Health Center (NSCHC) is committed to helping patients overcome barriers to good nutrition and empowering them to make healthier choices for themselves and their families.

When a patient identifies as experiencing food insecurity on the Social Determinants of Health Survey, our care team connects them with immediate resources through our Food Access Program, which includes:

Food Boxes

Shelf-stable groceries provided in partnership with the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank to support patients and families in need.

Food Bucks

Vouchers redeemable at Mayfly Market & Deli, a locally owned grocery store on Pittsburgh’s Northside. Food Bucks can be used to purchase a wide variety of nutritious staples—including fresh produce, milk, eggs, butter, chicken, bread, and orange juice.

Patients identified as experiencing food insecurity can receive food assistance directly from their care team. The process is simple, confidential, and designed to ensure that patients can quickly access nutritious food options.

In addition, NSCHC offers nutritional education and counseling to help patients manage and improve chronic medical conditions through healthy eating.
