Powered by Partnership: Solar Storage Project
On Monday, August 3, North Side Christian Health Center hosted a ceremonial "switch-on" event to celebrate the completion of a new solar and storage project. The project is designed to strengthen emergency preparedness and ensure continuity of patient care during power outages. Funding and support was generously provided by Invest in our Future and The Pittsburgh Foundation, Direct Relief, Collective Energy, and Memorial Park Church. Initiated by The Pittsburgh Foundation, this inspiring partnership reflects what is possible when mission-driven organizations come together to strengthen community health.
As severe storms bring more frequent flooding to our region—with what were once considered once-in-a-century weather events now occurring every 25 years or more often in Allegheny County—protecting essential healthcare services has never been more important. This new solar energy and resilience project is our answer: a clean energy system that will safeguard critical vaccine supplies, maintain access to electronic medical records, and support virtual care during power outages.
The event brought together community leaders, healthcare advocates, elected officials, project partners, and funders to recognize the collaborative effort behind the installation and highlight the role resilient infrastructure plays in protecting access to healthcare services.
