Service-Driven Dentistry: Mapping Career Paths in PA’s Community Health Centers

Dr. Covato, Dr. McGeary, and Dorian Benjamin

At the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine, second-year dental students recently had the opportunity to explore a different path in dentistry—one rooted in service and community impact.

On Friday, April 17, Dr. Suzann McGeary, DDS, welcomed Dr. Lucia Covato, DMD, Chief Dental Officer at North Side Christian Health Center, to share insights on careers in community health centers. Dr. McGeary is a full-time faculty member, Assistant Professor in the Department of Restorative Dentistry and Comprehensive Care and participates in the University Dental Health Services. She was joined by Dorian Benjamin, SHRM-CP, Talent Acquisition Specialist, Pennsylvania Primary Care Career Center with PACHC who provided perspective on workforce opportunities across Pennsylvania.

Together, they highlighted the meaningful work being done in Federally Qualified Health Centers, where access, compassion, and whole-person care come together to serve those most in need. As an FQHC, NSCHC is proud to encourage the next generation of dentists to consider careers in community health, where their skills can make a lasting difference.
