Delivering Fresh Food to Families in Need
The power of collaboration
Fifty local families received essential fresh food items this month—just one example of how community partnerships are helping North Side Christian Health Center (NSCHC) fulfill its mission to provide holistic, compassionate care to those most in need.
In partnership with Pittsburgh Community Services, Inc. and Gordon Food Services, NSCHC was able to distribute fresh chicken, eggs, milk, and butter to families facing food insecurity. For many, these items are not only difficult to afford, but also hard to access. By bringing resources directly to the community, this effort supports both immediate needs and the broader health and well-being of families throughout the Northside.
“NSCHC’s mission has always been rooted in whole-person care—and that includes ensuring our patients and neighbors have access to basic needs like food,” said Bob McGrogan, Development Director at NSCHC. “We are deeply grateful to Pittsburgh Community Services and Gordon Food Services for stepping up in such a meaningful way.”
The food distribution reflects NSCHC’s ongoing commitment to addressing the social determinants of health—the non-medical factors such as nutrition, housing, and community support that directly impact a person’s physical and emotional wellness. These types of partnerships allow NSCHC to extend its reach beyond clinical services, reinforcing the belief that health care should go beyond the exam room. The delivery of fresh, nutritious food is just one more way the health center is advancing health equity and uplifting underserved communities.
“To everyone involved in making this happen—thank you,” said McGrogan. “Your generosity has made a tangible difference in the lives of our patients and their families.”
