A New Era for Northview Heights
NSCHC Joins Historic Groundbreaking & Time Capsule Ceremony
On Monday, June 8, 2026, NSCHC was in attendance for the groundbreaking and progress update of the new Northview Midrise development which included a moving Time Capsule Ceremony. The event, hosted by the Housing Authority of the City of Pittsburgh (HACP), brought together residents, community advocates, and elected officials—including Mayor Corey O’Connor, HACP Executive Director Caster D. Binion, State Rep. Aerion Abney, Councilman Bobby Wilson, and representatives from the Northview Heights Senior Tenant Council—to honor the rich history of Northview Heights while looking ahead to a bright, modern future.
A Note for the Future: NSCHC’s Contribution to the Time Capsule
As part of the ceremony, attendees were invited to contribute keepsakes to a time capsule that will preserve the spirit of today’s community for generations to come. Representing NSCHC, CEO Bethany Blackburn penned a note to be sealed inside the capsule. NSCHC has long been dedicated to providing compassionate, high-quality care to the residents of Northview Heights. Bethany’s note honors the resilience and vibrant history of the neighborhood's residents while cementing NSCHC’s ongoing commitment to support the community's health as it transitions into this exciting new chapter.
About the Northview Midrise Project
The new $22.6 million Northview Midrise, located at 246 Penfort St., will replace the historic but aging 1962 high-rise building. Designed to provide beautiful, modern, and accessible affordable housing, the new four-story development will feature:
43 modern units (36 one-bedroom and seven 2-bedroom units) spanning nearly 4 acres.
Community Amenities: A community room with a kitchenette, a computer room, a multi-purpose room, bike storage, and on-site property management space.
Ground-Floor Commercial Space: Nearly 4,500 square feet of commercial space split into two units, dedicated to serving residents—with potential space leased for resident supportive services.
Construction is slated for completion in October 2027, after which residents will relocate to the new midrise, and the old high-rise will be safely demolished over a 12-month period.
