The Food Bucks Program
Expanding Access to Healthy Food
With generous support from The Buhl Foundation NSCHC launched the Food Bucks Program. This innovative initiative expands NSCHC’s existing food access program, which currently provides food boxes in partnership with the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank, by empowering patients to choose the fresh foods that best meet their families’ needs.
Patients identified as experiencing food insecurity during their visit can receive food assistance directly from their care team. The simple, confidential process ensures that patients can quickly access nutritious food.
“Access to healthy food is a critical part of whole-person care,” said Bethany Blackburn, CEO of NSCHC. “The Food Bucks program helps us meet patients where they are and strengthen their ability to make healthy choices for themselves and their families.”
NSCHC Food Bucks can be redeemed at Mayfly Market & Deli, an independent grocery store located on Pittsburgh’s Northside. Unlike traditional food box programs, Food Bucks allow patients to select a wider range of nutritious staples—including fresh produce, milk, eggs, butter, chicken, bread, and orange juice—promoting dignity, choice, and improved nutrition.
Your generous gift will help us to continue providing this essential health need by giving to the Food Bucks Program here: www.nschc.org/donate.
